At Satino by WEPA, we recognised the industry’s needs and intensified our research into sustainable innovations. This led us to become the first European manufacturer to utilise the fast-flowing old corrugated containers (OCC) resource stream in our production cycle, creating our latest product line, Satino PureSoft. The range is made from 100% recycled cardboard and offers a sustainable alternative to traditional hygiene papers without compromising on quality or hygiene credentials.
How it’s made
The move to online shopping has led to accelerated production of cardboard packaging. Innovators here at Satino by WEPA saw this increased supply as an opportunity to reduce waste in our supply chain, utilising the valuable recyclable fibres found in OCC.
Cardboard is collected and taken to our production facility. Through our pioneering recycling process, the paper fibres contained within OCC are transformed into new soft, hygienic, and durable papers. During the shredding and pulping phases, we use renewable energy and sustainable water management. This allows us to minimise energy consumption, utilise responsibly sourced energy where it is needed, and reduce water wastage through the cleaning and reusing of wastewater. What’s more, the paper’s bleach-free production helps save up to 80kg of chlorine per tonne of pulp for the benefit of the planet.
More than just recycled
Aside from the sustainable qualities of the product itself, there are wider environmental benefits to be gained from switching to Satino PureSoft that can support businesses across a range of sectors with their increasingly important sustainability targets. Wrapped and delivered in recycled paper packaging that uses 60% less virgin plastic, which itself can be recycled after use, Satino PureSoft is helping businesses to reduce their output of waste.
In addition, cutting-edge production methods have taken learnings from our innovative Liquify range to create a fast-dissolving paper that breaks up in the water. For facility managers concerned about pipe blockages and the costly problems they can create, Satino PureSoft represents a welcome revelation.
Resourceful production
The creation of Satino PureSoft is a result of advanced green thinking. Where virgin fibre hygiene papers are sourced direct from forests, Satino PureSoft sees virgin fibres from our planet’s forests remain in the resource stream. In many cases, Satino PureSoft represents the fifth generation of use for its fibres, following life as everything from booklets to paper bags and cardboard food packaging across four cycle loops. Prolonging this loop cycle is an asset in both boosting its circular economy and better preserving natural resources.
Shrinking emissions
Made from 100% recycled cardboard, our innovative new range of hygiene papers, Satino PureSoft, marries softness and sustainability, with production methods that are 70% smaller than that of virgin fibres. The papers, which include toilet paper, kitchen rolls and hand towels, are also free of bleaching, giving them a boldly unique beige finish, which echoes the product’s naturality.
This sustainably driven product range is helping to grow our circular economy by keeping valuable, natural resources within the production cycle. Our resourceful approach creates new opportunities for the industry to protect the planet’s natural resources, without compromising quality.
